Liberty Hill Says Goodbye to Snoring and Sleep Apnea with Dr. Gillespie

Liberty Hill Dental Team @ 10:39 pm

Sleep apnea – a common condition that affects more than 12 million Americans – can disrupt sleep and detract from your quality of life. The condition is often linked to snoring, and even worse, blocked airways that can actually cause you to stop breathing at intervals throughout the night. People with sleep apnea often sleep restlessly, awake feeling tired, have chronic headaches, and more.

If you suffer from sleep apnea, Liberty Hill Dental can provide a safe and effective solution. Using a comfortable, flexible oral appliance, Dr. Gillespie or Dr. Patton can open your airways, promoting restful, snore-free slumber. (more…)

Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome in Children: A Clinical Review

Liberty Hill Dental Team @ 3:52 am

Upper airway resistant syndrome (UARS) is more common in children than is obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS).

Age will color the symptoms associated with the syndrome.

UARS must be looked for in families with adult sleep-disordered breathing.

Polygraphic recording during sleep will show flow limitation with usage of nasal cannula/pressure transducer system, but the abnormal breathing during sleep may be indicated also by burst of tachypnea without saturation drops.

Esophageal pressure monitoring may be the only way to confirm a suspected diagnosis.

A mild developmental anomaly of the craniofacial skeleton is often seen in these children even in the presence of enlarged tonsils and adenoids.

Children with sleep-disordered breathing should have a maxillomandibular examination to assess the need for orthodontic treatment to expand the oral cavity.

Oh, My Aching Head!

Liberty Hill Dental Team @ 12:17 pm

Headaches are, unfortunately, a common occurrence for many of us. Tension headaches and migraines can impact your ability to go about your daily routine, affecting your family, your job, and your social life. Many times, the cause of headaches involves a malfunction of the TMJ joints. These triangular-shaped joints in front of your ears may be small, but they pack a wallop when out of whack!

Liberty Hill Dental’s Dr. Thad Gillespie, F.A.G.D. can help. He eliminates headaches, including tension headaches and chronic migraines, with non-invasive, oral appliance therapy. Get ready for relief!

Facts & Figures
28 million Americans suffer from migraines.
30 to 80% of US adults experience occasional tension headaches.
Tension headaches are the most common types of headache experienced by adults.

The TMJ Connection
Oftentimes, a malfunction of the TMJ (temporomandibular) joints is to blame for headaches. These joints are extremely sensitive to physical and emotional stress. Trauma and a misaligned bite also contribute to impaired function.

Additionally, when your TMJ joints don’t operate at maximum efficiency, you may unconsciously grind your teeth or clench your jaw, especially during sleep. This grinding and clenching is also the way a lot of us respond to stress.

NTI-tss to the Rescue
Dr. Thad Gillespie delivers relief from headache pain with a small, acrylic oral appliance. A custom-made device, called NTI-tss, which stands for Nociceptive Trigeminal Inhibition tension suppression system, is FDA approved to treat migraines. It works great to relieve chronic tension headaches, as well.

Simply wear the device at night to reposition your jaw, stop the clenching and grinding, and let the TMJ joints heal to return to optimal function. Your jaw, and your aching head, will thank you!

At Liberty Hill Dental, we provided personalized care that promotes good oral and overall health. Call today to schedule an appointment with Dr. Gillespie. You’ve got nothing to lose – except headache pain!
